「さようなら、聖火台」東京オリンピック開会式から50年 国立競技場から姿を消す

1964年の東京オリンピック開会式から50年を迎えた10月10日、50年前の開会式の会場となった国立競技場(東京都新宿区)の聖火台が取り外された。

1964年の東京オリンピック開会式から50年を迎えた10月10日、50年前の開会式の会場となった国立競技場(東京都新宿区)の聖火台が取り外された。2020年の東京オリンピック・パラリンピックに向けた建て替え工事の一環だ。戦後復興のシンボルにもなった聖火台は、東日本大震災からの復興のシンボルとして宮城県石巻市に貸し出されるという。毎日新聞などが報じた。

聖火台は高さ2.1メートル、直径2.1メートル、重さ2.6トンの鋳物製。58年アジア大会に向けた同競技場建設に合わせ、「鋳物の町」として知られる埼玉県川口市の鋳物職人、故鈴木萬之助さん、故文吾さん親子らが製作した。

スポニチによると、萬之助さんの四男、昭重さんが国立競技場から聖火台が取り外される様子を見守っていたという。

10日、クレーンでの取り外し作業を見守った万之助さんの四男昭重さん(79)は「(設置から)56年間、本当にご苦労さまと心から思った。石巻でも大事にしてほしい」と感慨深そうに語った。

取り外された聖火台は、年内に国立代々木競技場内(渋谷区)で一般公開した後に石巻市に貸与され、同市内に造られる国営震災復興祈念公園に設置される予定だ。2020年の東京オリンピック・パラリンピックの際には、新しい国立競技場の敷地内で展示されるという。
