販売打ち切り後も国内に根強いファンがいる。2015年6月30日生産分までの期間限定で受注する。MSN産経ニュースなどが報じた。
昭和59年にランクル70が発売されてから今年で30年になることを記念し、復刻する。自動車業界で、10年前に販売を終えたモデルの再発売は異例だ。
質実剛健なイメージを保ちながらフロントフェースやインテリアはデザインを現代的に変更した。また、過去販売した4ドアバンタイプに加え、アジア新興国などで販売しているピックアップトラックタイプも国内で初めて発売する。価格はバンが360万円、ピックアップトラックが350万円。

海外では、中近東や豪州、アフリカなどの約100カ国でいまも販売されているが、国内では、排ガス規制強化や低燃費車人気などで2004年に販売を終えた。直線的なデザインや悪路を得意とする走行性などで人気は根強く、国内での復活を望む声が寄せられていたという。
25日には都内で愛好家を集めたイベントが開かれ、集まったファンが新型車とあわせて展示された歴代の車を見学した。
