北朝鮮が弾道ミサイルを発射したことに関して、訪米中の安倍首相はトランプ大統領とともに、日本時間2月12日午前0時30分ごろ、共同で声明を発表した。
安倍首相が北朝鮮を名指しした上で「国連決議を完全に順守すべき」と厳しい表現を交えつつ、長めの言葉で追及したのに対し、トランプ大統領は「偉大な同盟国である日本と100％ともにある」と、一言述べるに留まった。共同で記者発表したものの、日米の温度差が際立つ内容となった。

「北朝鮮のミサイル発射は断じて容認できません。北朝鮮は、国連決議を完全に順守すべきです。先ほど、トランプ大統領との首脳会談で、米国は常に100％、日本とともにあるということを明言されました。そして、その意思を示すために今、（トランプ大統領は）私の隣に立っておられます。私とトランプ大統領は、日米同盟をさらに緊密化し、そして強化していくことで完全に一致しました。私からは以上です」
