2016年アメリカ大統領選挙を巡る2大政党の候補者指名争いは、3月5日(現地時間)、計5州で予備選・党員集会があった。

開票結果の集計は続いているが、ハフポストUS版によると、共和党は、2位につける保守強硬派テッド・クルーズ上院議員が、カンザス州とメイン州で勝利を確実にしたほか、メイン州でも優勢。トップを走る実業家ドナルド・トランプ氏はケンタッキー州とルイジアナ州で勝利が確実だ。

民主党はヒラリー・クリントン前国務長官がルイジアナ州で勝利を確実にした。カンザス州とネブラスカ州はバーニー・サンダース上院議員が制することが確実な情勢だ。

スーパーチューズデーでトランプ氏が過半数の州を制してから、2012年の大統領選に出馬したミット・ロムニー氏ら共和党の重鎮らがこぞってトランプ氏を批判した。「トランプ降ろし」の動きは共和党内で激しくなっている。

一方、トランプ氏は3日の討論会で、開始直後に「俺の手を見ろ。小さいか? これが小さかったら、あっちの方も小さいはずだ。大丈夫だ、まったく問題ない」と下ネタ発言。これが改めてメディアから批判されている。これらがどう投票行動に影響したか注目される。

共和党の指名争いに参戦していた脳神経外科医のベン・カーソン氏は4日、指名争いからの撤退を表明した。予備選・党員集会が始まる前に世論調査でトランプ氏を上回ったこともあったが、これまでに勝利した州はなく、伸び悩んでいた。
