「トランプ氏は真実を語っていた」フランスの人類学者の分析とは

今年夏、米国に滞在しました。そして10月初め、日本での講演で「トランプ氏とクリントン氏の勝率は半々だ」と言いました。彼の当選を予言したというより、可能性を指摘したわけです。

歴史家として見るなら、起きたのは当然のことです。ここ15年間、米国人の生活水準が下がり、白人の45歳から54歳の層の死亡率が上がりました。で、白人は有権者の4分の3です。

自由貿易と移民が、世界中の働き手を競争に放り込み、不平等と停滞をもたらした、と人々は理解し、その二つを問題にする候補を選んだ。有権者は理にかなったふるまいをしたのです。

奇妙なのはみんなが驚いていること。本当の疑問は「上流階級やメディア、大学人には、なぜ現実が見えていなかったのか」です。

選挙戦では、候補個人について多くのうその応酬がありました。しかし、社会について語る場面では、真実を口にしていたのはトランプ氏の方でした。

彼は「米国はうまくいっていない」と言いました。ほんとうのことです。「米国はもはや世界から尊敬されていない」とも言いました。彼は同盟国がもうついてこなくなっている事実を見ています。そこでも真実を語ったのです。

クリントン氏は、仏週刊紙シャルリー・エブドでのテロ後に「私はシャルリー」と言っていた人たちを思い出させます。自分の社会はすばらしくて、並外れた価値観を持っていると言っていた人たちです。それは現実から完全に遊離した信仰告白にすぎないのです。

トランプ氏選出で米国と世界は現実に立ち戻ったのです。幻想に浸っているより、現実に戻った方が諸問題の対処は容易です。
