アメリカ・カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスのカリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校（UCLA）で6月1日午前10時ごろ、発砲事件が発生し、容疑者を含む男性2人が死亡した。捜査当局は容疑者が自殺したとみている。
ロサンゼルス市警のチャーリー・ベック署長は会見で、発砲事件はUCLAの工学部棟の小さなオフィスで発生し、少なくとも3発発砲されたと述べた。市警は捜索を続け、現場で銃を回収した。
ロサンゼルス市のポール・コレッツ市会議員はハフポストUS版に、「犠牲者は教授だが、銃撃犯は現時点で不明だ」と述べた。発砲した動機は未だ不明だという。
UCLAのキャンパスは発砲事件直後に一時封鎖されたが、2時間後、安全が確認されたため封鎖は解除された。ベック署長は、現在は安全であると述べている。
