キャメロン首相、EUとの関係見直し交渉着手へ 総選挙での圧勝受け

英国のキャメロン首相は11日、自らが率いる与党保守党の総選挙での圧倒的な勝利を受けて、公約の英国と欧州連合(EU)の関係見直しの議論に着手する考えを示した。

[ロンドン 11日 ロイター] - 英国のキャメロン首相は11日、自らが率いる与党保守党が先週の総選挙で圧倒的な勝利を収めたことを受けて、公約として掲げていた英国と欧州連合(EU)の関係見直しの議論に着手する考えを示した。

キャメロン氏は選挙後初めてとなる議会演説を前に、記者団に「われわれは(選挙民から)負託を受けた。困難な作業になることは明らかだが、われわれは負託を受けた」と述べた。

先週の総選挙で圧倒的過半数を勝ち取ったキャメロン氏は、EUと関係見直しに関する再交渉をした上で、2017年末までにEUからの離脱の是非を問う住民投票を実施すると約束している。

欧州との関係をどうするかという問題は、かつて保守党を二分し、キャメロン氏の先輩であるサッチャー、メージャーの両首相の失脚を招いた。キャメロン氏は保守党内の欧州統合懐疑派の議員たちが造反しないようにと躍起だ。

総選挙での勝利の後、キャメロン氏は何人かのEU首脳に電話し、近く始める予定の英・EUの関係見直しに向けた再交渉について話をしたという。

EU欧州委員会のバローゾ前委員長は、首相再選を果たしたキャメロン氏はEUとの関係見直しを図る上でより強い立場におり、EUはキャメロン氏にある程度の譲歩をすることになるだろうと話している。
