イギリスで行われているテニスの4大大会、ウインブルドン選手権で7月6日、男子シングルスの決勝が行われ、セルビアのノバク・ジョコビッチがスイスのロジャー・フェデラーを破って、3年ぶり2度目の優勝となった。
第１セットは互いにサービスゲームをキープし合ってタイブレークとなりましたが、ジョコビッチ選手に僅かなミスが出て、６－７で取られました。
第２セットは積極的に前に出てくるフェデラー選手に対し、ジョコビッチ選手はパッシングショットがさえて先にサービスゲームをブレークし、６－４で取り返しました。
第３セットは再びタイブレークとなりましたが、ジョコビッチ選手が７－６で取り、第４セットは一時はフェデラー選手をマッチポイントまで追い詰めましたが、そこから粘られて５ゲームを連取され、５－７で取られました。
最終の第５セットも接戦となりましたが、ジョコビッチ選手が６－４で取ってセットカウント３対２として、４時間近くかかった熱戦を制しました。
