サッカーJ1、FC東京の日本代表FW武藤嘉紀（よしのり=22）が、3月上旬にイングランド・プレミアリーグの名門チェルシーから正式オファーを受けたことが4月9日、明らかになった。日刊スポーツなどが報じた。
昨季日本代表に定着するなど大ブレーク。今季も開幕から３得点し、ハリルジャパンで起用される逸材が、名将モウリーニョ監督の目に留まった。複数の欧州クラブも調査を進めており、東京残留も含め争奪戦に発展しそうだ。（中略）
昨季後半戦で一気にブレークし、代表に定着したとはいえ、国際舞台での実績は少ない。何よりも３月に慶大を卒業したばかりだ。プロ入りからクラブと代表を合わせて公式戦１８得点。その中で、ダイナミックで規格外のプレーに、タレント軍団のチェルシーを率いる名将モウリーニョの心を射止めたと思われる。

FC東京によると、武藤は「まだ何も決めていない」と、現時点では日本でのプレーに集中していると話しているという。
武藤はプロ1年目の昨季、慶応大学に在籍しながら新人最多タイ記録の13得点を挙げる活躍を見せた。
チェルシーはリーグ優勝4回、欧州チャンピオンズリーグ優勝1回の強豪。今シーズンもリーグ戦で首位に立っている。
スポニチによると、チェルシーは武藤の将来性を含めた実力を高く評価しているという。移籍金についてFC東京は、Jリーグから海外に渡った日本人選手では過去最高額となる推定400万ポンド（約7億1000万円）の移籍金を提示されたとみられるという。
また、チェルシーが来季に向けて「横浜ゴム」と巨額のスポンサー契約を結び、今回はスポンサー絡みのオファーとの見方があることについて、FC東京の大金社長は「スポンサーさんの絡みがあることはないです」と強調していたという。
