ジーコ、FIFA会長選に意欲 「候補者になる道は開かれている」

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)のブラッター会長が辞任表明したことを受けて、サッカー元日本代表監督のジーコ氏は6月2日、自身のフェイスブックに「私はFIFAに立候補することができる」と投稿し、会長選挙への出馬に関心を示した。

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)のゼップ・ブラッター会長が辞任表明したことを受けて、サッカー元日本代表監督のジーコ氏は6月2日、自身のFacebookに「FIFA会長選の候補者になる道は開かれている」と投稿し、会長選挙への出馬に意欲を示した。

「なぜ可能性がないと言えるのか? 私の人生は常にサッカーと共にあった。ブラジルや、その他の国々に敬意を払いながら真剣に情熱を持ってきた。妻のサンドラと夕食を取りながら、考えた。妻と子供たちは私をサポートしている。私はかつてブラジルのスポーツ大臣だったし、日本代表や鹿島アントラーズの監督をしてきた経験もある。政治的な思惑を超えて、サッカーのことを考えている。私への支援はまだないが、FIFA会長選の候補者になる道は開かれている。今はまだアイデアの段階だが、どうなるかは分からない」

■80年代を代表する選手として活躍

ジーコ氏は、1953年生まれ。本名はアルトゥール・アントゥネス・コインブラ。時事ドットコムによると、「ジーコ」というニックネームは「やせっぽち」という意味で、少年時代に小柄でやせていたために付けられた。

コトバンクによると、ブラジル代表MFとして、ワールドカップには1978年アルゼンチン大会から3大会連続出場し、80年代を代表する選手として活躍した。日本では1991年に住友金属(鹿島アントラーズの前身)に入り、94年に引退。その後、総監督などを務め鹿島を強豪チームに育てた。

2002年、日本代表の監督に就任。2006年に行われたワールドカップドイツ大会に日本を導いた。ワールドカップ終了後に代表監督を退任。フェネルバフチェ(トルコ)、ブニョドコル(ウズベキスタン)、CSKAモスクワ(ロシア)などの監督を務めた後、2011年にサッカー・イラク代表監督に就任。その後、カタールのアル・ガラファの監督になったが、2014年に退任した
