3D映像が再現する、難民問題の最前線の島。テレビよりもリアルな現実

難民問題の最前線となっているギリシャのレスボス島を、これまでにない形で表現した。

デザイナーのグループと3Dイメージの制作スタジオが手を組み、難民問題の最前線となっているギリシャのレスボス島を、これまでにない形で表現した。

「陸と海が出会う場所」は2016年1月に制作された。レスボス島で、難民がたどる最も重要なルートを再現している。

3D映像からは、難民が長いヨーロッパへの逃避行で、中継地点となっているレスボス島が死活的な役割を果たしていることが分かる。ヨーロッパ大陸へ渡ろうとする難民が捨てていったおびただしい数のライフジャケットは、すでに島の光景として定着した。

国連難民高等弁務官事務所(UNHCR)によると、レスボス島には毎日、平均約2000人が上陸している。島には難民たちが一時避難できるシェルターやキャンプが約6000カ所ある。

日々移り変わる島の人口も、ビジュアルで表現されている。難民だけでなく、ボランティアや、海に向かうレスキュー隊なども、今や島の住民となっている。

このプロジェクト「追われた人々のための大使館」は、共同創立者ステファノ・レヴィディスの、ユニヴァーシティ・カレッジ・ロンドン(ロンドン大学)での修士論文として始まった。プロジェクトの仕上げで、3Dスキャンスタジオ「ScanLAB」とも提携した。

「ギリシャにいると、ギリシャの島がいわゆるヨーロッパの裏口となっている状況を、目の当たりにします」。レヴィティスと、もうひとりの共同創立者ソフィア・ジョルゴヴァッシリは、ハフポストの取材にメールで答えた。

ほとんどの人が写真や映像でしか見たことがないレスボス島を、3Dで描写するのは、独特で力強い表現手法だと、2人は強調する。

「常に新しい表現手法を探しています。レスボス島で明らかになっている危機を、どうやって地図に落とし込み、再現できるかを」

「追われた人々のための大使館」の最新のプロジェクトは、レスボス島に捨てられたゴムボートやライフジャケットを再利用して、防水リュックをつくり、難民たちに使ってもらおうというものだ。

「ブローカーたちが難民を詰め込むボートは、海を渡るのには危険です。ほとんどのライフジャケットが偽物なので。だけど質が悪いおかげで、リュックサックを作るにはこの上ない材料となるのです」
