シリア・ダマスカス郊外で1月31日、車の爆発と2件の自爆テロがあり、イギリスのNGO「シリア人権監視団」は、71人が死亡し、うち5人は子供だと伝えた。

AP通信はシリア内務省の情報として、少なくとも50人が死亡し、100人以上が負傷したとしている。

シリア国営通信社SANAが伝えたところでは、バス停で自動車爆弾が爆発した。負傷者が救助されている中、2人の自爆テロ実行犯が自爆したという。

ロイターによると、イスラム教スンニ派の過激派組織「イスラム国」(IS)は、支持者によるインターネット上のニュース配信網「Amaq」で犯行を認める声明を出した。2件のテロについて「ダマスカスにあるシーア派の最も強力な軍事拠点を攻撃した」とした。

現場はダマスカス南方の人口密集地帯。ムハンマドの従弟アリー・イブン・アビー・ターリブの娘の墓「サイエダ・ゼニヤブ廟」があり、シーア派の巡礼地として、イラクやレバノンからも人々が訪れている。

自爆テロは、スイスのジュネーブで、国連の仲介で開催されるシリア政府と反体制派の和平協議にタイミングを合わせたとみられる。シリアのハラキ首相は、攻撃の狙いについて「劣勢にあるテロリストグループが、仲間の士気を高めるため」との見方を示した。
