イギリス在住の覆面ストリートアーティストの「バンクシー」がパレスチナ自治区ガザに残した作品のうちの1点が、700シェケル(175ドル、約2万1000円)と破格の値段で地元の男性に売られたことが分かった。

バンクシーは2015年初めにガザで、複数の作品をスプレーで描いた。その中のひとつが、このドアに描かれた女神が自分の頭部を腕に抱えている作品だった。

6人の子を持つパレスチナ人のラベア・ダードゥナさんは、2014年夏のイスラエル軍による攻撃で家を破壊され、家賃や家族のためのお金が必要だったという。売却後、ドアにバンクシーの絵が描かれていたことを知った。「絵の価値やバンクシーが何者なのか全く知らなかった。だまされた」と主張し、「知っていたら安値で売らなかった」として返却を求めている

ダードゥナさんは「作品の価値やバンクシーが誰かまったく知らなかった」と語り、「知っていたらこんなに安値で売らなかった」と嘆いた。

一方、購入した男性は「絵を守るために買った」などと話しており、現時点で返却や売却をするつもりはないという。

バンクシーは社会風刺的アートを世界各地でゲリラ的に描いているが、その生い立ちなどプロフィールは明らかにしていない。作品は通常、50万ドル以上の値段がつき、2013年にオークションに出された壁画は110万ドルで落札されている
