ベルギー政府の観光当局は11月25日、猫だらけの動画を公開した。パリ同時多発テロの影響を受け、首都ブリュッセルには最高レベルのテロ警戒態勢が敷かれている。そんな時期に一体なぜ？
ロイターによると、テロ警戒レベルが最高になったことを受け、ホテルのキャンセルが相次ぐなど、ベルギーの観光産業が打撃を受けている。そのため、ベルギーの3つの地域の観光局が共同で動画を制作、観光に訪れてほしいと呼びかけることになった。
猫を使ったのは、警察の動きをソーシャルメディアに投稿しないよう、国防省が国民に呼びかけたことで、警察の代わりに猫がTwitterに多数投稿されて話題になったことがきっかけだ。
今回公開された動画では、実際に警戒態勢の続く街のなかで撮影された。ブリュッセル市内の観光名所「グラン・プラス」や、巨大なモニュメント「アトミウム」などがロケ地に選ばれ、地元が生んだ画家ルネ・マグリットの絵画に登場する「山高帽」や「青りんご」を身に着けた人々、そしてたくさんの猫たちが、動画に登場している。
当局のFacebookページによると、街には地元の人々や、熱狂的な観光客、そして、かなりの数のミステリアスな猫がみられたという。
なお、ブリュッセルは、25日から学校や地下鉄の営業を少しずつ再開している。
