エジプト北部のタンタとアレクサンドリアで、キリスト教の一派、コプト教の教会で相次いで爆発が起き、少なくとも44人が死亡、100人以上が負傷した。

エジプト北部のタンタとアレクサンドリアで4月9日、キリスト教の一派、コプト教の教会で相次いで爆発が起き、少なくとも44人が死亡、100人以上が負傷した。爆発は2つの教会で発生。過激派組織「イスラム国(IS)」は系列メディアを通じて「兄弟(ISの戦闘員)が実行した」などと主張し、今後もテロを繰り返す可能性を示唆した。ロイターなどが報じた。

最初の爆発は、タンタのコプト教会で起こった。この日はイエス・キリストのエルサレム入城を記念するキリスト教の祝祭日「聖枝祭」で、多くの信徒が礼拝で教会を訪問中だった。

アル・アラビアによると、テレビ中継されていた動画に、聖歌を合唱中に爆発が起きた様子が映っていたという。

タンタでの爆撃の数時間後、アレクサンドリアのサン・マルコ教会の前で別の爆発が起こった。爆発の瞬間を捉えたとする監視カメラの映像には、青いセーターを肩に掛けた男が、教会の敷地に入ろうとする様子が映ってた。

エジプトのシシ大統領は3日、アメリカのトランプ大統領を訪問。両国間がイスラム過激派のテロ対策などで、連携を強化する考えを強調するなどと述べていた。シシ大統領は今回の爆発後、3カ月間の非常事態宣言を発令した。

コプト教徒はエジプト人口の約1割を占めると推計される。ローマ・カトリック教会のフランシスコ法王は、28日からカイロを訪問する予定になっていた。フランシスコ法王はコプト教徒とすべてのエジプト人に、哀悼の意を表明した
