エチオピアで非常事態宣言、オロモ族の反政府デモ激化で

オロモ族の祭り「イレチャ」から発生した反政府デモで、頭上に両手を交差させるポーズをとる参加者たち。この「クロスポーズ」は政府に抗議するためののシンボルとして広く使われている。

エチオピア最大の部族オロモ族の反政府デモが激化する中、政府は10月9日、全土に6カ月間の非常事態宣言を発令した。

エチオピアでは10月2日、オロモ族の祭りが反政府デモに発展し、治安部隊が催涙ガスなどで鎮圧しようとしたところ参加者が折り重なって倒れ、50人以上が死亡している

エチオピアのハイレマリアム・デサレン首相は「国民が脅威にさらされている状況を鑑み、非常事態を発令した。短期間で平和と安定を取り戻すことが必要だ」と述べ、連立与党「エチオピア人民革命民主戦線」(EPRDF)は内閣を改造し、野党との対話を予定していると語った。

オロモ族は、1億人いるエチオピアの人口のおよそ3分の1を占めているが、長年にわたって政府の弾圧を受けている。人権団体アムネスティ・インターナショナルによると、2011年からの4年間で少なくとも5000人のオロモ族が反体制的という理由で逮捕されている。また、ヒューマン・ライツ・ウォッチによると、オロミア州の土地強制収用をめぐり、2015年11月以降400人以上のデモ参加者が殺害され、数万人が逮捕されている。

オロモ族による抗議活動として、リオデジャネイロオリンピックの男子マラソンで銀メダルを獲得したオロモ族のフェイサ・リレサが、反政府を象徴する「頭の前で両手を交差させるポーズ」でゴールしたことが注目を集めた。
