アメリカには、イスラム教徒の入国を禁止すべきだと主張する大統領候補もいるが、反対にイスラム教徒を歓迎すると表明したSNSのリーダーもいる。

「世界中のイスラム教徒をサポートしよう」と呼びかけるメッセージを、Facebookのマーク・ザッカーバーグCEOが12月9日に投稿した。イスラム教徒に対して前向きな態度をとるよう訴え、Facebookは彼らの権利を守るためにできる限りのことをすると誓っている。

「私はアメリカだけでなく、世界中のイスラム教徒を支える輪に加わります。パリの同時多発テロやその後の事件で、イスラム教徒に対する憎しみが広がっています。全くの他人が起こした行動が原因で、今イスラム教徒の人たちは、迫害される恐怖を感じていることでしょう。

ユダヤ人である私は、両親から全てのコミュニティーに対する攻撃に立ち向かわなければいけないと教えられました。それが自分に向けられたものではなくても、誰かの自由に対する攻撃はいつか全ての人を苦しめることになる。

Facebookを使っている全てのイスラム教徒の皆さんに、私はリーダーとして伝えたい。ここでは皆さんはいつでも歓迎されている。皆さんの権利を守るために闘い、平和で安全な場所を作ります。

子供を授かって、私たち夫婦には多くの希望が生まれました。誰かを憎めば、簡単に人は悪だと信じるようになってしまいます。希望を失ってはいけません。共に立ち上がり、お互いの良いところに目を向けましょう。そうすることで全ての人にとってより良い世界を築けます」

イスラム教徒のアメリカ入国を完全に禁止するというドナルド・トランプ氏の発言には、世界中のリーダーから批判が集まっているが、今回のメッセージでザッカーバーグ氏もその一人に加わったことになる。これまでに、イスラエルのネタニヤフ首相や、イギリスのキャメロン首相もトランプ氏の声明を強く非難している。
