ISIS年次報告書の表紙
イラク侵攻を続けるイスラム過激派武装組織「イラクとシリア（シャーム）のイスラム国家（ISIS）」（別名ISIL）は、6月10日にイラク北部モースルを掌握（日本語版記事）。その後もいくつかの都市を制圧（日本語版記事）し、29日には、シリア北部からイラク中部にまたがる「イスラム国」の樹立を宣言した。
活動をジハード（いわゆる「聖戦」）と位置づけるISISは2012年以来、イラク国内で行っている武装活動に関して、まるで企業さながらの年次報告書を発表してきた。2014年3月31日に発表された最新の報告書「al Naba」は、2012年11月から2013年11月までの活動を400ページにまとめた内容となっている（スンニ派世界から戦闘資金を集めるための説明資料として使われていると見られる）。
同報告の数字からは、爆撃、暗殺、検問所設置、離反者の処刑などを通じて、ISISがイラク国内での支配拡大を図る活動の進展具合が読み取れる。
アメリカの外交政策シンクタンク「Institute for the Study of War」（ISW）は、ISIS最新報告書の分析（英文PDF）を発表している。その内容を紹介していこう。
ISIS年間報告は、攻撃の種類別に分類されている
攻撃の種類は次の通り。暗殺、武力攻撃、爆撃（迫撃砲、グレネードランチャーならびにロケット弾）、簡易手製爆弾物（IED）による住宅の爆撃ならびに焼き討ち、刑務所襲撃による受刑者解放、車載爆弾による自爆攻撃（VBIED）、バイクによる自爆攻撃（MCBIED）、IED攻撃、ナイフによる襲撃、標的攻撃、狙撃、イスラーム背教者の改心、都市占拠、車による背教者殺害、検問所設置、離反者ならびに脱走者の処刑。
2013年の活動は2012年から倍増
同組織は2013年に、イラク国内で1万件近くの活動を行なったと発表した。暗殺は1000件、IED攻撃は4000件、また過激派受刑者の解放は数百名におよんだという。さらに、離反者数百名が悔い改めたと主張する。これらの数字は、2012年報告のほぼ2倍となっている。

報告書で活動地域とされているのは、バグダッド、ニヌア、サウス、ディヤーラー、アンバール、サラハディンおよびバグダッド北部、キルクークの7地区だ。\n\n\n全7地区における2012年と2013年の武装活動総数\n

IED攻撃の件数が最も少なかったのはバグダッドだ。ISWはこの理由を、バグダッドにおけるISISの支配力が2013年後半の段階では不十分だったからだとしている。\n\nIEDは安価かつ容易な製造が可能で、多用されるはずでありながら、設置となると必ずしも簡単ではない点が、理由として指摘されている。また、バグダッドが、（爆発物を隠す場所が少ない）大都市であることも、IEDによる攻撃が少ない要因かもしれないという。

背教とは、この場合、イスラーム教の信念や教義の放棄ならびに拒否のことだ。
