シリアとイラクで活動する過激派組織「イスラム国」が、戦闘から逃げ出そうとした外国人兵士100人を処刑したとする証言を、イギリスの経済紙「フィナンシャル・タイムズ」が日本時間12月20日に報じた。
戦闘が長期化したことで組織内の士気が下がり、グループ内の対立も強まっていると分析している。
アサド政権と「イスラム国」の双方と対立している活動家で、フィナンシャル・タイムズと交流のある人間は次のように証言した。「イスラム国」の事実上の首都である北シリアの都市ラッカから逃亡しようとした外国人戦闘員100人を処刑した、と。この証言者は安全上の理由から自分の名前を伏せている。

アメリカ軍などが8月から始めた空爆で「イスラム国」の勢力は弱体化している。
「イスラム国」には、過激なイスラム思想に影響を受けて欧米などから参加した外国人戦闘員が多数いるが、同紙が取材した専門家は「長期化する戦闘に疑問を感じて、故郷の家族と連絡を取って組織から抜けようとする外国人戦闘員もいる」と話しているという。
