映像は、作戦に参加した兵士のヘルメットに装着されたカメラで撮影された。映像には救出された人質が、ボディーチェックを受ける様子も納められていた。

この作戦では、ISに拘束されていた69人のアラブ人を救出した。しかし、アメリカ兵1人が死亡。ISとの地上戦でアメリカ兵が死亡したのは初めてのことだった。

作戦後のに行われたアメリカ国防総省の記者会見では、「オバマ大統領が否定していた地上戦闘が行われたのではないのか」との質問が相次いだ。アメリカ軍はイラクに約3000人を派遣しているが、その内容はイラク軍などの訓練や支援を行う軍事顧問か、特殊部隊に限定されている。アメリカ軍がIS掃討作戦に、特殊部隊を投入したのはこの作戦が初めてだった

同省のピーター・クック報道官は記者会見で、認められている特殊部隊の活動範囲だったことやイラク側の支援の範囲内で行われた「救出作戦」だったことを挙げ、正当性を主張。「人質が大量に処刑されるとの情報を得て作戦は実行された」と述べた。また、同省のジェフ・デイビス大尉は、大規模な墓が掘られているという情報を得て作戦を実行したと語った。

アメリカのカーター国防長官は23日、人質救出について、「大量虐殺の恐怖を世界にまき散らすことを防いだ」と強調。今後も同様の作戦を行う意向を示した。
