今回の襲撃は、ユダヤ教徒の聖地「神殿の丘」(イスラム教徒は「ハラム・シャリフ」と呼ぶ)で、11月5日に起きた。混雑した電車のプラットフォームに、パレスチナ人男性が運転するミニバンが突っ込む衝撃的な瞬間だ。イスラエル当局は、テロリストの襲撃と断定した。

男性はイスラエル警察の警官に射殺される直前、ミニバンから飛び出し、鉄の棒で通行人を襲撃した。1人が死亡し、13人が怪我をした。

連日続く襲撃は、イスラム原理主義組織「ハマス」が関与している。こうした襲撃は東エルサレムで10月下旬にも発生しており、ユダヤ人とアラブ人の間で緊張が高まっている。

ハマスのスポークスマン、ファウジ ・バルホウム氏は、実行犯を「英雄」と褒め称え、さらなる襲撃を求めている。

イスラエル警察は、この襲撃を行った人物を38歳のパレスチナ人、イブラヒム・アル・アカリと特定した。彼は治安を乱したという理由で服役した後、刑務所から出所したばかりだった。

ハマスは声明で「占領されたエルサレムという聖なる土地で血を流したアル・アカリは、アル=アクサー・モスク(「ハラム・シャリーフ」に建設されたモスク)とエルサレムの神聖さと、アラブ人の血のために報復を望むしかなかった」と述べた。

この襲撃は、2週間前に起きた事件とほぼ同一のものだった。東エルサレム出身のパレスチナ人が、込み合った駅に車で突っ込み、生後三か月のイスラエル系アメリカ人の少女とエクアドル出身の女性を殺害した。5日の襲撃と手法が似通っている。

5日早朝、イスラエルの警察官が、争いが起きたエルサレムの旧市街近くで、石や爆竹を投げる覆面をしたパレスチナ人の群衆を解散させている写真が掲載された。

イスラエルがパレスチナ人に対してエルサレムで最も神聖な地域へのアクセスを禁止した後、パレスチナ人は警察が発射した閃光弾の煙が充満した中で耐え続けなけれならなかった。警察がめったに行われない強硬策をとった結果、著名なユダヤ人宗教活動家の暗殺未遂事件と、警察がパレスチナ人容疑者を殺害した事件で、すでに緊張が生まれていた中、さらに緊張の度合いを一段階上げる結果となった。

パレスチナ人は、イスラエルの「宣戦布告だ」と非難している。和平交渉の挫折から生まれた極度の危機状況によって、イスラエルの入植地建設は進行し、数カ月にわたって暴発寸前の緊張が続いている。

イスラエル当局は7日に東エルサレムを再び開放すると発表したが、ますます増加する宗教的対立からくる不安は、さらなる暴力が起きる危険性が高まる。

イスラエルは、パレスチナ人に襲撃されたアメリカ系イスラエル人イェフダ・グリックさんを讃える行事を計画している。彼は、ユダヤ人が「神殿の丘」と呼び、イスラム教徒の聖地にもなっている土地へより多くのユダヤ人がアクセスできるようにするキャンペーンを行っていた。パレスチナ人から見ると、ユダヤ人たちの挑発行為とみなし、頻繁に暴力的な反抗が起こる。

イスラエル警察のスポークスマンであるミッキー・ローゼンフィールド氏は、5日の衝突で数人の警察官が怪我をしたと述べた。また、パレスチナ人の群衆を解散させるために閃光弾を使用した、と付け加え、すぐに平静を取り戻したと述べた。

東エルサレムは、パレスチナ人の若者による投石、自動車への火炎瓶攻撃、そして頻繁に生じるイスラエル警察との衝突で、2014年の夏から不安定な状況にある。

イスラエルは、ユダヤ教徒、イスラム教徒、キリスト教徒にとって神聖な東エルサレムを、1967年の第三次中東戦争でヨルダンから奪取している。

パレスチナ人は、未来の首都のための領土を要求する。この土地の運命は、ユダヤ人と、イスラム教徒の間で感情的な対立を生んでいる。そして、将来にわたってイスラエル・パレスチナ紛争の中心となる。

現在の不安定な状態は、ユダヤ教徒とイスラム教の双方が崇拝する神聖な地の柵のまわりに集中している。ユダヤ人が「神殿の丘」と呼ぶその地は、聖書の時代に建設されたエルサレム神殿の一部「嘆きの壁」がある。イスラム教徒が「アル=アクサー・モスク」と呼ぶその地は、サウジアラビアのメッカ、メディナに次ぐ、第3の最も神聖な土地である。
