トヨタ自動車は9月8日(アメリカ時間)、新型「プリウス」をアメリカ・ラスベガスで公開した。共同通信などが伝えた。

中核モデルの燃費性能を大幅に改善させ、日本経済新聞によると、ガソリン1リットルあたり40km超の走行が可能になる見通しという。

ブルームバーグは以下のように詳細を伝えている。

現地時間8日夜に公開された次期モデルは、よりシャープでスポーティーな外観となっている。発表資料によると、車高は従来より20ミリメートル低く、長さと幅はそれぞれ60ミリ、15ミリ長くした。熱効率は40%以上に高め、軽量化を図ることで低燃費を実現した。現行の3代目のモデルはJC08モードで1リットル当たり32.6キロメートル。次期モデルはまた、自動ブレーキなどの運転支援技術を搭載している。

新型はモーターなどのハイブリッドシステムを小型・軽量化し、エンジンや電池の高性能化を実現した。朝日新聞デジタルによると、日本国内で販売されている自動車で最も燃費がいいのは、ハイブリッドカーでトヨタ・アクア、ガソリン車ではスズキ・アルト(ともに37.0km/l)。次期プリウスはこれらをしのぐことになる。
