３時間を超える死闘を制した。第５セットの第２ゲーム、相手のサービスをブレークし主導権を握ると、最後の力を振り絞った。同第３ゲームをキープした直後、この試合初となるメディカルタイムアウトをとり、痛めている左ふくらはぎに分厚いサポーターを巻いた。時折、顔をしかめながら、また、足を引きずるようなしぐさも見せながらも世界ランク５位の意地で、気力を振り絞った。
