フランス大統領の決選投票を5月7日に控えて、フランス各地で大統領選に反対するデモが各地で開かれる中で、一部が暴徒化。パリでは火焔瓶を投げつけられた警官が火だるまになった。ガーディアンなどが報じた。
ハフポスト・フランス版によると6人の警官が負傷し、うち2人は重傷で入院しているという。マティアス・フェクル内務相は会見で「数百人のプロの活動家がいて、警官隊を攻撃するために参加していた」と話した。
フランスではメーデーの1日に労働者たちがデモ行進をするのが慣例になっており、フランス全土で14万2000人が参加した。今回はフランス大統領選の決選投票に進出した極右政党「国民戦線」のマリーヌ・ルペン党首と、元銀行家のエマニュエル・マクロン前経済相の双方に投票したくないという人たちが各地でデモに加わった。
パリでは、1回目の投票で敗れた急進左派のメランション氏の呼びかけで集まった多くの若者たちが、「どちらにも反対する」と書いたプラカードなどを手に大通りを練り歩いた。
ル・モンドによると、デモに参加した女性は「私にとってマクロンもルペンも大統領にふさわしいとは思えません。一人は人種差別主義者だし、一人は労働組合を排除することで社会を分断しようとしている」と話していたという。
