ポーランドの首都ワルシャワで10月3日、与党「法と正義」が成立を目指す人工妊娠中絶をほぼ全面的に禁止する法案に反対する大規模抗議デモが起きた。

デモには女性などおよそ2000人が「法と正義」の本部前に集まった。他にもワルシャワ、グダニスク、ウッジ、ヴロツワフ、クラクフなどポーランド国内の各都市でおよそ10万人がデモに参加した。

時事ドットコムによると、国民の90%以上がカトリックのポーランドでは、現行法でもヨーロッパの中で最も厳しい中絶禁止法が1993年に施行されている。中絶が認められるのはレイプ、近親相姦、母体に危険が及ぶ時、胎児に先天性異常がある時で、違反した場合、最高で禁錮2年の量刑が科される。

「法と正義」が提出した改正中絶禁止法では、中絶が母体に危険が及ぶ場合だけに限られ、量刑は最高で禁錮5年まで引き上げられる。

ロイターによると、デモに参加した女性たちは黒い服に身を包み、「私たちには医者が必要だ。宣教者じゃない!」などと叫んだ。

デモ隊が掲げていたプラカードには、「政府は妊娠を好んでいない。根絶させようとしている」と書かれていた。

BBCによると、ヤロスワフ・ゴヴィン副首相は5日、国営ラジオで大規模デモが起きたことについて「考慮しなければならない」と語り、「この改正法案は施行されないだろう」との見通しを述べた。

「ポーランドで中絶を完全に禁止されるのではと恐れている人たちに改めて申し上げたいのは、完全禁止の法案は通過しない、ということです。女性がレイプ被害にあったり、母体が危険になった場合などは、中絶を禁止しません。3日の大規模デモは考慮に入れなければいけませんし、我々は謙虚にならないといけません」

ベアタ・シドゥウォ首相も、今回の改正法案には距離を置いている。

「『法と正義』がポーランドで中絶のルールを変える法律を制定しないことを望みます」と、シドゥウォ首相は6日の会見で述べた。
