ニューヨークなどで人気のハンバーガーチェーン「シェイク・シャック」は17日、日本に進出すると発表した。サザビーリーグ(東京)と組んで2016年に東京に1号店を開く。

ニューヨークなどで人気のアメリカの新興ハンバーガーチェーン「シェイク・シャック」は2月17日、日本に進出すると発表した。「Hajimemashite, Japan!」(はじめまして、日本)との書き出して始まるリリースによると、飲食店や衣料販売を展開するサザビーリーグ(東京)と組んで2016年に東京に1号店を開く。東京オリンピックが開催される2020年までに日本国内に10店舗を出店する計画だ。

シェイク・シャックは、2014年末時点で、アメリカ国内のほかロンドンやイスタンブール、ドバイ、モスクワに63店舗を展開している。

ニューヨークの繁華街の店舗では、定番「シャックバーガー」が5.19ドル(約620円)で提供されている。従来のハンバーガーチェーンより高価だが、成長ホルモンを使わない良質な牛肉を使った「グルメ志向のバーガー」や、きめ細かな接客などで急成長しており、アメリカの都市部を中心に行列が途切れないほどの人気を集めている。2015年1月にはニューヨーク証券取引所に上場した。

提携するサザビーリーグは、アメリカのコーヒーチェーン「スターバックス」が1996年から始めた日本進出を成功させた。

シェイク・シャックは「マクドナルド・キラー」との異名を持つ。日本には、同じくアメリカのハンバーガー店「カールスジュニア」も2015年秋に再出店する予定で、マクドナルドの経営不振が続く中、日本のハンバーガー市場で競争が激しくなりそうだ
