テニスの全豪オープン第11日は1月29日、メルボルン・パークで行われ、女子シングルス準決勝で、世界ランク2位で第2シードのマリア・シャラポワ（27、ロシア）が第10シードのエカテリーナ・マカロワ（同）に6-3、6-2で快勝し、3年ぶりの決勝に進んだ。日刊スポーツなどが報じた。
第１セットを奪うと、第２セットはコースを狙ったパワフルなショットを次々に決めて圧倒した。「とてもうれしい。少し喜びを味わって、決勝に向けて準備したい」と爽やかに笑った。
身長１８０センチのサウスポーから繰り出されるサーブには、体勢を崩されながらも粘り強く返した。ツアー開幕戦で優勝し、好調を維持したまま７年ぶりの頂点にあと１勝まで迫った。
