政治の世界では、女性は未だに過小評価されている。だから自分たちの声を届けるために、女性たちは2倍戦わなければならない。
国連の男女平等や女性を支援する組織「国連ウィメン」によると、世界中の国会議員で女性が占める割合はたった22%だ。2015年8月時点で、国家元首または指導者に就いている女性はわずか21人。また、世界中の大臣のうち女性が占める割合は、2015年1月の時点で17%だった。
しかし、草の根の政治活動では、女性は大きな存在感を発揮してきた。アメリカ・ワシントンDCでは、女性たちが集まって警察官の暴力行為に抗議した。パキスタンでは、厳しい取り締まりに抗議する女性たちが道を埋め尽くした。彼女たちの声は無視できない力を持つ。
女性たちはどうやって抗議の声を上げてきたのだろうか。過去25年の写真を集めた。全部で58の写真は私たちにこう伝える。信念を持ったとき、女性は強くなる。
