ドナルド・トランプ大統領が情報漏洩者と戦争を始めている。大統領就任前に駐米ロシア大使と対ロシア経済制裁の解除について電話協議していた問題でマイケル・フリン大統領補佐官(国家安全保障担当)を辞任させたが、トランプ氏は情報機関の処分と浄化の話にすり替えようとしている。

2月16日、おなじみのトランプ風スタイルで攻撃が開始された。早朝のツイートで、名のある新聞を攻撃し、脅しをかけている。

情報漏洩は、そして不法な機密情報の漏洩は、ここ数年間ワシントンで大問題となっている。経営悪化のニューヨーク・タイムズ紙(とその他の新聞)は、謝罪せよ!

ついに、いかがわしい情報漏洩者に光が当たった!奴らは捕まるだろう!

漏洩と内部告発を取り締まろうとしたのはトランプ大統領が初めて、というわけではない。とりわけ前任のバラク・オバマ前大統領は、機密情報漏洩について、報道機関に厳しかった。しかし、オバマ氏の規制は、政策機密の保護が主だった。しかしトランプ氏の規制は保身のためとしか思えない。フリン氏辞任のきっかけとなった情報漏洩は、大統領補佐官だったフリン氏がトランプ氏の代わりに政権発足前からロシアと接触したという疑惑だ。フリン氏は政権が発足すれば対ロシア経済制裁を緩和すると約束したという。

トランプ大統領は、「フリン氏はロシアとの電話協議では何も間違ったことをしていない」と主張している。そしてトランプ氏は、政権の不正から目をそらそうとしている。トランプ氏は、投資会社「サーベラス・キャピタル・マネジメント」CEOのスティーブ・ファインバーグ氏に、情報機関を包括的に監視するための相談をしたという。情報機関は今後、追放される職員が出てくる恐れもある。

情報機関を監視しようと躍起になっているのは、トランプ大統領ひとりだけではない。共和党の重鎮ニュート・ギングリッチ前下院議長は16日早朝、「議会の委員会はフリン氏の通話内容の漏洩について調査する必要がある」とツイートした。

議会の情報委員会は、情報機関からの不正漏洩の調査を開始しなければならない。漏洩は、大統領を弱体化させる計画的な行為だ。

情報漏洩者を攻撃する動きは、すでに議会のトランプ支持者の間で支持を得ている。15日夕方、下院監査政府改革委員会のジェイソン・チェイフェッツ委員長(共和党)は、フリン氏の会話を明らかにする過程で、機密情報が報道機関に漏洩したか調査することを正式に要求した。

チェイフェッツ委員長は、ボブ・グッドラット下院司法委員会委員長(共和党)と共に、司法省監察官宛ての書簡を記した。フリン氏を取り巻く多くの報道は、電話の監視活動と、司法省とホワイトハウス間の機密情報資料についてのやり取りに言及しているが、両者は漏洩した情報の内容ではなく、漏洩の経緯を調査するように求めている。

「情報機関が電話を傍受した事実は可能性としてとても大きい。もしそうならば、それは機密情報だ。通話記録も同様だ。私たちは、機密情報を十分に保護することができなくなるのではないかと深く懸念している」

デビン・ヌネス下院情報委員会委員長(共和党)も、フリン氏の通話内容を調べることに消極的だ。同時に、一連の通話がなぜ報道機関に漏れたか調査することを強調している。

ヌネス委員長とチェイフェッツ委員長に対し、民主党は大きく反発している。民主党は、「ホワイトハウスを守るために議会の監視機能が歪められようとしている」と批判している。

「チェイフェッツ委員長は昨日、トランプ大統領から直接指示を受けたようだ」と、下院監査政府改革委員会のイライジャ・カミングス下院議員(民主党)は16日に語った。「フリン氏の嘘と、怪しげなロシアとの繋がりを調査せずに、チェイフェッツ委員長は、内部告発者たちを標的にしている。議会は、独立して行政部門を監視し、内部告発者を保護すべきだ。ホワイトハウスが不正を隠蔽し、これまでの数週間アメリカ国民を間違った方向へ導く中で、議会がそれをお膳立てするべきではない」
