アメリカのトランプ大統領が、シリアやイラクなど、7カ国のイスラム教国からアメリカへの入国を一時的に停止する大統領令に署名したことを受け、Twitter社の公式アカウントや同社のCEOが1月29日(日本時間)、大統領令に反対するメッセージをTwitter上に投稿した。

Twitterはあらゆる宗教を持つ移民たちによって構築されています。私たちは、いつまでも、彼らのために、彼らと共にあり続けます。

上記のツイートは30日午前の時点で50万以上の「いいね」が付き、30万回以上リツイートされている。

トランプ大統領は情報発信源としてTwitterを活用しており、2009年3月以降3万4000回以上のツイートを投稿している。Twitter社の宣言を見たTwitterユーザーの中には、そうした背景を引き合いに出し、「トランプのTwitterアカウントを凍結してくれ」といった返信をする者もいた。

また、Twitterの創業者のひとりで同社CEOのジャック・ドーシーは28日、大統領令への反抗を示すツイートを投稿した。

大統領令がもたらす人権と経済への影響は測りしえないもので動揺している。私たちはアメリカにやって来た難民と移民たちから利益を得ている。

■大統領令とは

27日に発令された大統領令は、シリアからの難民の入国を無期限に停止し、すべての国々からの難民受け入れを120日間停止するとされた。さらに、イスラム教徒が多数派を占めるイラン、イラク、リビア、ソマリア、スーダン、シリア、イエメンの7カ国からの入国を、90日間禁止するとの措置だった。

この措置を受けてニューヨーク州の連邦地方裁判所は1月28日、弁護士らの救済申し立てに応じ、大統領令の一部の執行を一時的に停止することを認めた
