サッカーのワールドカップ・ブラジル大会の日本代表で、セレッソ大阪の柿谷曜一朗が、スイス1部リーグのバーゼルに完全移籍することになった。7月7日、両クラブが発表した。バーゼルの公式サイトによれば、2018年6月末までの4年契約だという。
バーゼルは、スイスリーグを5連覇している強豪クラブ。かつては元日本代表の中田浩二（鹿島）が在籍していた。
柿谷は、クラブの公式サイトにて「ワールドカップで悔しい思いをした中でいっぱい考えて、FCバーゼルでチャレンジしようと決めました」などと、以下のようにコメントを発表した。
「僕はセレッソがめちゃくちゃ好きだし、一緒にやってきたみんなとタイトルを取りたい気持ちはありました。でも、もう一度海外でプレーできるチャンスが来て、ワールドカップで悔しい思いをした中でいっぱい考えて、ＦＣバーゼルでチャレンジしようと決めました。今のセレッソには一番上に立つべき選手たちが揃っていると思います。全員が輝くことを祈っているし、僕もそれに負けないようにがんばります。これまで本当に応援してくださったサポーターの皆さんには感謝しています。皆さんの前で、（リリース上ではなく）自分の口できちんとお礼をいいたいと思いますので、少し時間をください」

7月15日の川崎フロンターレ戦の試合終了後、セレモニーが行われる予定だという。
