8月25日から2日間に渡って、イギリス・ロンドンで開催された「ノッティングヒル・カーニバル」において撮影された、3人の警官が即興で踊りだす動画が話題だ。徐々にノリノリになっていく警官の姿に沿道の観客も大喜び。初日には100人の逮捕者が出るほど大規模かつカオスな空間となるカーニバルだが、警官まで踊りだしてしまうのは「お国柄」なのだろうか。
イギリスのロンドン西部のノッティングヒルで開催される、カリブ色あふれるカーニバル。レゲエやサルサなどの音楽にのって南国風の衣装を身に着けた人々が踊り続ける。8月の最終日曜日と翌日のバンクホリデーに行われる。1950年代にカリブ諸島からイギリスに移民してきた人々の祭りとしてはじまり、1964年から大規模なカーニバルとして開催されるようになった。現在では世界有数のカーニバルに成長している。
