大型のハリケーン「イルマ」は9月10日午後4時ごろ（日本時間11日午前5時ごろ）に、アメリカのフロリダ州南部に上陸した。勢力はやや弱まったが、フロリダ州では広い範囲で強風や高潮による被害が出ている。250万戸以上が停電しているとワシントンポストが報じた。
アメリカの国立ハリケーンセンターによると、大型のハリケーン「イルマ」はフロリダ州の西側に沿うように北上。日本時間の11日午前6時現在、中心の気圧は938ヘクトパスカル、最大風速は49メートルで、勢力はやや弱まり、5段階のうち下から2番目の「カテゴリー2」になった。

「イルマ」による強風などで、これまでに通過したカリブ海の島々で被害が相次ぎ、少なくとも27人が死亡したとABCニュースは伝えた。
フロリダ州政府は人口の3分の1にあたる630万人に避難命令を出し、多くの市民が避難所に身を寄せていて、最大級の警戒が続いている。
