アメリカのジョン・F・ケネディ元大統領が1963年11月22日、遊説中のダラスで暗殺されてから54年が経った。

アメリカの歴史家マイケル・ベシュロス氏らはこの日に合わせて、実際に起きた出来事を、画像などとともにツイートで紹介した。べシュロス氏による実況投稿の一部を紹介しよう。

銃弾の返り血を浴びたスーツを着替えてはどうかとの提案を、ジャクリーン夫人は拒否した。

演説されることのなかった原稿は、次の文章で締めくくられていた。

「問題が大きいときには、つまらないことで争わないようにしましょう。私たちの国が危機に瀕しているときには、私たちの間で争わないようにしましょう。

過去の遺産の中にある問題も、将来への希望も含めて、新しい信頼とともに立ち向かいましょう。そして、私たちが愛するこの祖国が、全ての人類を平和と豊かさの新しい国境に導くことになると、確信しましょう」
